Greg Nelson and Alan Boivin

Greg Nelson, a native of Chicago, began his apprenticeship with the offices of Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill.  He received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 1978 from the University of Arizona, and has been licensed in California since 1982.

Alan Boivin graduated with honors from Arizona State University at Tempe, Arizona in 1973 with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree.  He was first licensed in the State of Arizona in 1976 and soon afterward in California. Growing up with a love of building and construction, Alan has the practical knowledge of the details that make up a well designed project.

Alan and Greg were partners in the Santa Monica firm of Johannes Van Tilburg & Partners and were placed in charge of  a wide range of award winning projects.

Greg’s portfolio includes Columbia Pictures Television Building in Burbank, the Keye/Donna/Pearlstein Building in West Los Angeles, the San Diego Design Center, the Janns Court mixed-use project in the Santa Monica Mall, the Venice Renaissance, and Le Parc Condominiums. He has been involved in a variety of other projects ranging from very large mixed-use redevelopment competitions to intimately scaled boutiques, restaurants, and custom residences.

Alan and Greg started their own practice in 1990 after being with JVT & Partners for nearly eleven years.

Alan has a wealth of experience in residential architecture from single family custom homes, tract homes, and town homes to large attached projects with higher densities. The West Palm Apartments project, (582 units in Westchester) won a Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Beautification Award.  McClellan/Centinela Apartments (63 units in West Los Angeles) for Homestead Development won a Better Homes and Gardens Award. Some of their other projects include Santa Fe & Sienna Condominiums for the Valencia Co. (both of which have won numerous marketing awards), and Seven Oaks Apartments for Chandler Partners.

After the Northridge earthquake, they both worked with the City of Los Angeles Housing Department and private developers in rebuilding apartment buildings in the L.A. river basin. They also assisted many private home owners in repairing and remodeling their properties.

Their clients comment that Alan’s designs for their remodeling never look like additions, but they build upon and maintain the integrity of the existing structure.

Greg and Alan collaborated on the Brea Commerce Center (at Lambert and the 57 freeway) for Olin Properties, taking the project from design and planning approvals, all the way through final construction. This project involved over one million sq. ft. of office space in two buildings during the initial phase alone, as well as two restaurants and a parking garage.

As Project Architects for several restaurants that  included L’Express restaurant in Studio City and King George Fish & Chips on the Santa Monica Promenade, they have demonstrated experience in working within multiple disciplines. Their commercial experience includes numerous office buildings and specialty projects such as Johnson Motors Mercedes Benz in West Covina, and the facilities for Sebastian Hair Products on De Soto in Warner Center.

More recently Alan Boivin and Greg Nelson have helped in revitalizing downtown Los Angeles with the 635-unit Medici Apartments project for G.H. Palmer Associates.

Because of their broad based experience in all types of construction and configurations, they have a contextual approach to design and are comfortable working in a variety of styles. They have taken a proven people oriented and service minded approach to their architectural practice.
